Aych-Bee Too-Too-Ate: Bastardized Version of HB 228 clears the Senate
By Rusty Shackleford | March 31, 2009
After being sent to a super-sweet Senate Judiciary Subcommittee, Krayton Kerns’ HB 228 has passed 2nd reading in the Senate by a 40 to 10 vote…oh yeah, that super-sweet subcommittee completely decimated an awesome piece of legislation.
Don’t take my word for it, the action of a 50-50 split House speaks for itself: it passed on a bipartisan 60-40 House vote.
But now, the deliberation of those 60 individuals in the House amounts to nothing as the Senate Judiciary completely stripped the bill of all its substantive aspects. It resembles nothing of it’s original language or intent.
I dare you to listen to the committee hearing (starts at 2:41:00), it’ll make your brain swell…”What if you walked into a house that looked similar to yours and you were carrying a gun?!?!” (3:09:00) Double-You Tea Eff.
I shot an email off to all GOPers on the committee (with an active email address) letting them know of my disdain for what happened, and I’ve received a few responses apologizing for the actions of the committee. It was revealed that there are a few members of the Republican caucus in the Senate that would rather eat Christmas dinner with the Dems… every year.
That is all.
